We're a place for co-creators: people who want to make a real impact, take ownership and be part of something that's still evolving. As the UK's leading retailer of motoring and cycling products, we're supported by one of the country's largest independent vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair networks through Halfords Autocentres. This breadth gives us a strong, stable foundation - and the freedom to keep innovating and growing. That means real variety for our colleagues, along with the opportunity to learn, stretch and develop as the business moves forward. Whatever your role, you'll be part of a team focused on delivering exceptional service - using your expertise to solve problems, guide customers and help keep the nation moving with confidence. About the role Join Halfords in a high-impact role shaping our risk strategy. As a listed PLC, we must comply with the UK Corporate Governance Code, and Provision 29 requires robust oversight of our risk management and internal controls. You'll ensure our framework is strong, transparent, and fully aligned with regulatory expectations ahead of our FY27 year-end attestation. Reporting to the Head of Risk and Control, this role is central to embedding a risk-aware culture across the business. You'll identify, assess, and mitigate risks affecting operations, reputation, financial performance, or compliance, collaborating across teams to keep Halfords resilient and ahead of the curve. This is your chance to make a visible impact on a major PLC and shape the future of risk management. Key responsibilities • Develop, implement, and maintain Halfords' risk management framework, policies, and procedures to ensure a robust and transparent approach to risk. • Maintain and oversee the risk register, driving the implementation of mitigation strategies and monitoring progress. • Identify, evaluate, and track key risks across financial, operational, strategic, regulatory, cybersecurity, and reputational areas. • Ensure a balanced approach to risk-taking and mitigation, aligning risk management with Halfords' strategic objectives. • Support risk workshops across the organisation to inform decision-making and strengthen organisational resilience. • Prepare and present clear, insightful risk reports to executive management, the board, and other key stakeholders. • Lead training and awareness programmes to embed a strong, risk-aware culture throughout the business. • Act as a centre of excellence for risk, partnering with teams including Finance to meet Provision 29 requirements, while leading and developing a dedicated risk team. About you • Strong technical expertise with extensive risk management experience and a proven ability to embed change and risk practices across a business. • Experience developing and implementing risk frameworks, policies and procedures. • Skilled at influencing, partnering, and building alignment with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership. • Excellent communicator with strong written, presentation, and analytical skills to convey complex risk concepts clearly. • Proactive, energetic, and resilient, with the confidence to challenge the status quo and drive meaningful change. • High level of initiative, attention to detail, and ability to rapidly understand business operations and inherent risks. • Collaborative team player who can motivate, inspire, and lead others. • Ambitious and committed to personal development, consistently delivering high performance and demonstrating tenacity in achieving goals. Reward & benefits • A fair and competitive salary evaluated against market data, car allowance, annual discretionary bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave. • Commitment and dedication to your ongoing personal and professional development.
