Head of Design Milton Keynes | Full-Time | Office-Based | Leadership Progression Opportunity Are you an experienced Design Leader with a strong background in structural engineering, steel fabrication or complex engineered products? We're working exclusively with a highly respected engineering business that delivers innovative structural solutions for major projects across the UK and internationally. As part of an exciting succession plan, they are seeking a Head of Design to lead their Design & CAD function while developing towards a future senior leadership position. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing organisation where you'll have genuine influence over technical direction, team development and future business growth. The Role Reporting into the senior technical leadership team, you'll be responsible for leading the Design & CAD department, overseeing the production of high-quality technical drawings and engineering documentation while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. Key responsibilities include: • Leading and developing the Design & CAD team. • Managing design workload planning, quality control and technical standards. • Overseeing 2D and 3D CAD drawing production. • Supporting structural design and engineering assessments. • Reviewing engineering calculations, drawings and technical documentation. • Ensuring compliance with relevant UK and European standards. • Collaborating closely with manufacturing, procurement, project and operations teams. • Driving continuous improvement across design processes and department performance. • Supporting product development and innovation initiatives. About You We'd love to hear from candidates with: • A degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline. • Strong understanding of structural analysis and steel design principles. • Experience within steel fabrication, manufacturing, construction, structures or a similar engineering environment. • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software. • Experience reviewing technical drawings and engineering documentation. • Previous leadership, management or mentoring experience within a design function. • Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills. • Commercial awareness and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Desirable • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards). • Experience within temporary structures, live events, sports, entertainment or exhibition sectors. • Knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards and relevant regulations. • Project management experience.
