Job description

Are you an experienced Financial Controller looking for a varied interim leadership role? Do you enjoy combining technical finance with strategic stakeholder engagement? Are you looking for an opportunity to help shape the future of a finance function during a period of change? A well-established not-for-profit organisation is seeking an Interim Financial Controller to join its finance team on a contract initially running until the end of December. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior finance professional to take ownership of the financial control function while supporting the organisation through an exciting period of transformation. Reporting into the Director of Finance, you will lead on financial reporting, governance and compliance, while working closely with senior leaders to improve processes, strengthen financial controls and help shape the future direction of the finance function. The key responsibilities of the Interim Financial Controller are: • Leading the production of monthly management accounts and ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely financial reporting. • Preparing high-quality financial reports and analysis for the senior leadership team, Trustees and governance committees. • Acting as the finance lead across audit, risk and investment matters, ensuring strong financial governance and regulatory compliance. • Supporting the year-end process and acting as the key finance contact throughout the external audit. • Reviewing and strengthening financial controls, policies and procedures to ensure best practice across the organisation. • Leading the continued optimisation of the recently implemented finance system, identifying opportunities to improve reporting and efficiency. • Working closely with senior stakeholders and external advisers to review the structure of the finance function and support organisational change. • Providing leadership and guidance to the wider finance team while building strong relationships across the organisation. The successful candidate will have: • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent). Exceptional qualified by experience candidates will also be considered. • Previous experience operating at Financial Controller level or within a similar senior finance leadership role. • Charity sector experience is highly desirable, particularly within organisations with investment portfolios or complex income streams. • Excellent technical accounting knowledge, including financial reporting, governance and external audit. • Experience reviewing finance systems and implementing process improvements. • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to present financial information to senior leaders, Trustees and auditors. • A collaborative approach with the ability to influence, challenge and build strong working relationships across the organisation. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a respected not-for-profit organisation during a significant period of change, where you will play a key role in leading the finance function and supporting strategic decision-making through to the end of the year.
