For questions about this job, contact: Jessica Gregory Team Leader J82 Job Summary The jobholder will play an essential role assisting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse with the 24-hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward / department. They will contribute to the provision of professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for helping to develop and maintain a ward or department’s philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. By assisting with managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will support the cost-effective use of resources. As an experienced nurse the jobholder will assist in co-ordinating activities on the ward or department ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward/dept. They will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. The jobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse. Why you should join our Team Ward J82 is a 32 bedded unit within the Abdominal Medicine & Surgery CSU, and specialises in the care of patients with pancreatic and upper gastro intestinal conditions. The patients can be both elective and acute. And due to the acuity and co-morbidities of our patient groups, we work as part of a wide MDT which includes; the clinical teams, ACPs, dieticians, physiotherapy team, and colleagues in critical care and outreach. We are a comparatively large nursing team of over 40 individuals. However, through our supportive leadership team and professional, can-do attitude, we deliver evidence based best practices and care with the feel of a much smaller and close knit team. What you will bring to the role The role is to provide and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care. You will deliver care without supervision and take responsibility as the prime care provider for a group of patients and at all times promote confidence in our commitment to provide excellent compassionate patient care. The role will involve taking charge of the ward or department as necessary in the absence of the Sister or Charge Nurse. You will participate in the in-service training, preceptorship and mentorship of junior staff, post basic learners and students as well as maintaining your personal development. The jobholder will work within an environment caring for adult surgical patients primarily but not restricted to those patients having pancreatic and upper gastro intestinal procedures and management for either long- or short-term conditions.
