Job description

Lead Recovery/HDU Nurse Location: North London Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum Contract: Full-Time, Permanent About the Role As the Lead Recovery/HDU Nurse, you will provide clinical leadership across the Recovery and HDU areas, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care. Working closely with senior nursing and theatre leadership teams, you will support the day-to-day management of the department, promote best practice, and help maintain the highest standards of clinical care. The successful candidate will be a visible and supportive leader, committed to developing staff, driving quality improvements, and ensuring an outstanding patient experience. Key Responsibilities • Provide clinical leadership and support to Recovery and HDU teams. • Coordinate and oversee the daily running of the department. • Ensure high standards of patient care, safety, and clinical practice are consistently maintained. • Support the management of staffing, resources, and patient flow. • Act as a clinical role model and expert practitioner. • Lead on quality improvement initiatives, audits, and clinical governance activities. • Support, mentor, and develop junior nurses and support staff. • Deliver teaching and training within the department. • Work collaboratively with consultants, anaesthetists, theatre teams, and the wider multidisciplinary team. • Assist with the implementation of evidence-based practice and service development projects. • Participate in the on-call rota where required. About You To be successful in this role, you will have: • Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse. • Significant experience working in a Recovery, HDU, ITU, Critical Care, or Theatre environment. • Proven leadership or senior nursing experience. • Sound knowledge of post-anaesthetic care and the management of deteriorating patients. • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills. • Experience mentoring, supervising, and developing staff. • Excellent communication and organisational skills. • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement. • A commitment to delivering outstanding patient care.
