Job description

Legal Advisor We are currently recruiting for a Legal Advisor for one of our established clients. This is a senior role where you’ll provide expert advice to leadership teams and stakeholders on governance, legal compliance, policy development, and regulatory change. The postholder will also act as the organisation’s designated Data Protection Officer, ensuring compliance with GDPR and information governance requirements. Key Responsibilities • Lead on GDPR, data protection, and information governance compliance. • Manage Freedom of Information requests and regulatory enquiries. • Provide expert advice on governance, policy, compliance, and legislative developments. • Develop, review, and implement policies, procedures, and guidance. • Oversee complex casework relating to complaints, appeals, disciplinary matters, and fitness to practise processes. • Support senior committees and decision-making bodies through high-quality governance and secretariat services. • Deliver training and guidance on compliance and regulatory matters. • Build effective relationships with regulators, external advisers, and internal stakeholders. • Line manage and support the development of a Policy Adviser. About You You will be a qualified legal professional with significant post-qualification experience and strong knowledge of data protection and regulatory compliance. Experience required includes: • Strong knowledge of GDPR and data protection legislation. • Excellent written, verbal, and stakeholder management skills. • Experience developing policies and providing legal or regulatory advice. • Ability to manage complex cases and exercise sound judgement. • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills. Candidates will ideally have prior experience working within the higher education sector or a similar regulated sector and be comfortable taking on a standalone Legal role.
