Job description

Providing high-quality consultant-level care for patients with burn injuries, covering the full pathway from acute assessment and resuscitation through to operative management, reconstruction and long-term follow-up, for both children and adults. Contributing to regular burns MDT meetings, ward rounds, outpatient clinics and operating theatre sessions across both sites, ensuring continuity and excellence of care. Working closely with a highly experienced multidisciplinary team, including nursing, therapy, psychology, play and social care colleagues, to deliver holistic, patient-centred care. Supporting and developing services for patients with complex burn-like conditions, including StevensJohnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, in collaboration with other specialties. Contributing to the education and supervision of trainees, fellows and resident doctors, and supporting undergraduate medical education within the Trust. Playing an active role in clinical governance, including audit, quality improvement, morbidity and mortality review, guideline development and service evaluation. Actively engaging in research and innovation, including participation in local, national and international clinical studies, and supporting the Trusts ambition to offer research participation to patients and families wherever appropriate. Supporting the ongoing development and evolution of the Birmingham Burns Service, contributing to service improvement, innovation and, where appropriate, leadership initiatives aligned to the Trusts clinical strategy. Developing and maintaining subspecialty interests within burns, plastic surgery and/or laser therapy (adult and/or paediatric), aligned to personal expertise and service need. Contributing to the wider professional life of the Trust through participation in departmental, directorate and Trust-wide committees or working groups, as required.
