Job description

A GP receptionist serves as the first point of contact for patients. Providing administrative support, managing appointments and ensuring smooth practice operations whilst maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Key responsibilities: Patient interactions and reception duties: Greeting patients and visitors in a professional and friendly manner both in person, via telephone and over email. Booking, amending and cancelling appointments using clinical systems. Assisting patients in accessing appropriate services or health care professionals efficiently. Acting as a chaperone during clinical examinations when required once adequate training is provided. Providing information about practice arrangements to prospective new or temporary patients. Administrative and clerical tasks: Processing repeat prescription requests and online consultation requests according to practice guidelines. Managing patient records which will involve coding and filing correspondence and medical notes. Supporting clinicians with administrative tasks. Maintaining the tidiness, safety and security of the practice premises. Attending staff meetings and undertaking training as required. Confidentiality and compliance: Handling sensitive patient information with strict confidentiality. Following practice policies and procedures and written protocols to ensure compliance with both practice and NHS standards. Reporting potential risks and supporting health, safety and infection control measures to senior members of staff.
