Cisco Network Engineer – Firewall Remediation Project Location: London Contract: Inside IR35 Rate: £350–£380 per day Sector: Financial Services We are seeking an experienced Cisco Network Engineer to support a firewall rule review and remediation project within a professional financial services environment. This is a hands-on role focused on reviewing, analysing and improving Cisco firewall rule sets in response to internal security and audit findings. You will work closely with IT Security, internal audit stakeholders and technology partners to ensure firewall policies are secure, well-documented and aligned with change management standards. This is a great opportunity for a network engineer with strong Cisco firewall, routing, switching and network security experience to deliver a focused security remediation project in a regulated enterprise environment. Key Responsibilities • Review, analyse and modify Cisco firewall rules in line with security and audit findings. • Identify redundant, obsolete, overly permissive or non-compliant firewall rules. • Carry out firewall policy reviews and recommend remediation actions. • Conduct impact assessments and risk analysis before implementing firewall changes. • Support the closure of network-related security audit findings. • Document all firewall changes clearly for the BAU support team. • Participate in change management processes and ensure work is completed to agreed standards. • Work with internal IT Security, audit and infrastructure teams. • Support improvements to internal monitoring and network security capability. • Carry out agreed out-of-hours work where required for planned changes. Skills & Experience Required • 3+ years’ experience in network engineering and firewall administration. • Strong Cisco networking experience, including routing and switching. • Hands-on experience with Cisco firewalls and security platforms. • Experience with Cisco ASA, Cisco Firepower or Cisco Secure Firewall. • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, NAT, ACLs and network security principles. • Experience reviewing and remediating firewall rule sets. • Ability to assess risk and business impact before implementing network changes. • Familiarity with ITIL, change management and enterprise support processes. • Strong documentation and technical reporting skills. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Desirable Skills • Cisco certifications such as CCNA, CCNP or CCIE. • Experience working in banking, financial services or another regulated environment. • Knowledge of network monitoring and management tools. • Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, audit remediation and regulatory compliance requirements.
