Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Plant Mechanic to join a busy local authority workshop in Derby on a temp-to-perm basis. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated team responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of plant and grounds maintenance equipment, helping to keep essential frontline services operating safely and efficiently. • Location: Stores Road, Derby • Salary: £30,024 per annum • Hours: 37 hours per week • Contract: Temp to Perm • Start: ASAP The Role: As a Plant Mechanic, you will support the Workshop Manager and Lead Mechanic in carrying out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on a variety of plant and machinery used across Derby City Council's grounds maintenance operations. Key Responsibilities: • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on plant and grounds maintenance equipment. • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults. • Attend plant breakdowns and carry out emergency repairs both on-site and within the workshop. • Undertake welding, fabrication and modification work, including manufacturing replacement parts where required. • Complete service records, inspection reports and daily worksheets accurately. • Assist in the specification and selection of new plant and machinery. • Support the induction and training of new employees, apprentices and work experience placements. • Contribute to the continuous improvement of workshop systems and procedures. About You: • Proven experience as a Plant Mechanic, Plant Technician, Plant Fitter or Heavy Plant Mechanic. • Experience maintaining and repairing grounds maintenance machinery, plant equipment or similar mechanical equipment. • Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. • Welding and fabrication experience. • A commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.
