Private Client Tax Assistant Manager

£45,000 - £55,000
An established, top 10 accountancy practice is seeking a Private Client Tax Assistant Manager to join its Cambridge office. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and technically focused environment. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of private clients, review personal tax compliance work, provide advice on complex tax matters, support the development of junior team members, and build strong client relationships while ensuring a high standard of service delivery.
Role Responsibilities
• Manage a portfolio of private client tax compliance work, ensuring assignments are delivered on time and to a high standard.
• Review personal tax returns prepared by junior team members.
• Prepare technical advice on complex private client tax matters for review by senior colleagues.
• Identify tax planning opportunities for existing clients.
• Attend pre-year-end and completion meetings with private tax clients where required.
• Maintain strong client relationships and provide regular updates on the progress of assignments.
• Monitor work in progress (WIP) and prepare draft fee proposals for approval.
• Identify changes in the scope of client work and propose appropriate additional fees where necessary.
• Support and mentor junior colleagues through training, feedback and performance reviews.
• Assist with recruitment activities, including interviews for junior hires.
• Deliver technical training appropriate to the experience level of trainees.
• Review final tax packs and transmittal letters before they are issued to clients.
• Contribute to business development initiatives, networking events and corporate social responsibility activities.
• Ensure all work complies with UK tax legislation and professional standards.
Personal Requirements
• CTA qualified, or qualified by experience with a relevant tax or accountancy qualification such as ATT, ACA, ACCA or CA.
• Previous experience within an accountancy practice in a private client tax role.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK private client tax.
• Experience reviewing tax returns and managing a client portfolio.
• Confident communicating with clients and building long-term relationships.
• Experience supervising, mentoring or line managing junior team members.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to identify opportunities to add value for clients.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
