Radiotherapy Service Technician

• To participate in the maintenance service to highly complex radiotherapy equipment used for treating cancer patients. In particular: linear accelerators, orthovoltage therapy x-ray machines, High Dose Rate after-loading machine and dosimetry equipment. • To technically interpret reports from radiographers; and to discuss complex aspects of linear accelerator operation with scientists, technologists and manufacturers engineers with regard to fault diagnosis, equipment maintenance and innovative device development and modification. • To construct innovative devices and modifications in order to assist scientists with R&D. • To regularly deliver, under supervision, the training of small groups of inexperienced staff and students. To describe machine operation to students and non-technical personnel. • To identify opportunities for the innovation of equipment to enhance the service. • To propose and develop procedures with regard to treatment machine maintenance; and to contribute to the development and maintenance of the Radiotherapy Quality System.
