Job description

• To participate in the maintenance service to highly complex radiotherapy equipment used for treating cancer patients. In particular: linear accelerators, orthovoltage therapy x-ray machines, High Dose Rate after-loading machine and dosimetry equipment. • To technically interpret reports from radiographers; and to discuss complex aspects of linear accelerator operation with scientists, technologists and manufacturers engineers with regard to fault diagnosis, equipment maintenance and innovative device development and modification. • To construct innovative devices and modifications in order to assist scientists with R&D. • To regularly deliver, under supervision, the training of small groups of inexperienced staff and students. To describe machine operation to students and non-technical personnel. • To identify opportunities for the innovation of equipment to enhance the service. • To propose and develop procedures with regard to treatment machine maintenance; and to contribute to the development and maintenance of the Radiotherapy Quality System. These procedures will impact on the work of radiographers and radiotherapy consultants. For further details of the role please see the attached job description.
