Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision Location: Worthing, West Sussex Start Date: September 2026 Hours: Full-time, Term Time Only Pay: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Alternative Provision setting in Worthing from September. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young people who require additional support to engage in education. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally. The Role • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. • Assisting with the delivery of learning activities across a range of subjects. • Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in learning. • Building positive relationships with students, staff, and families. • Supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. • Helping to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. • Contributing to student progress through observation and feedback to teaching staff. The Ideal Candidate Will Have • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within education, youth work, care, or support settings. • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach. • Strong communication and relationship-building skills. • The ability to remain resilient and positive when faced with challenges. • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people. • A willingness to undertake training and professional development. Desirable Experience • Previous experience in an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEN, or SEMH setting. • Behaviour management experience. • Experience supporting students with additional learning or emotional needs.
