SEN - Sen Teaching Assistant

Position: Teaching Assistant (TA) Contract Type: Full-Time, Term Time Only Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and support staff to help create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every student can achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. Key Responsibilities Classroom Support • Support teaching staff in delivering high-quality learning activities and lessons. • Work with students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to reinforce learning. • Assist in the preparation and organisation of classroom resources and materials. • Encourage pupil engagement, participation, and independence. • Monitor and record pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff. Student Support • Support students with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and other learning needs. • Assist in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies. • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing. • Build trusting and supportive relationships with pupils. • Provide personal care support where required. Safeguarding and Welfare • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all students. • Follow safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety procedures at all times. • Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns promptly and appropriately. • Support pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities. Teamwork and Communication • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, therapists, and other professionals. • Communicate effectively with parents and carers when appropriate. • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities. • Contribute positively to the wider school community. Person Specification Essential Criteria • Experience working with children or young people. • A caring, patient, and resilient approach. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues. • Good organisational and time-management skills. • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. • Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Desirable Criteria • Experience working in a SEND, specialist, or educational setting. • Knowledge of Autism, SEMH, ADHD, and other additional needs. • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or a related field. • Understanding of behaviour management strategies. • First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training.
