Global Accounting Network are currently partnered with an established London-based business to hire for an experienced Senior Accounts Assistant. The business are a private-equity investor who have been operating for more than a decade and focus on transforming and growing mid-market companies through a hands-on, value-added approach.
With a team of staff across four European offices, this company brings a strong investment mindset and a commitment to high standards across its finance operations. The role offers a chance to contribute to the continued development of an in-house finance function, working across transactional, intercompany and billing support.
About the RoleThe Senior Accounts Assistant will report to the Financial Controller and play a key role in maintaining accurate accounting records and ensuring day-to-day transactional finance processes run efficiently. This Senior Accounts Assistant position is ideal for an organised, proactive individual who enjoys managing multiple activities—purchase ledger, expenses, invoicing, cash management, credit control support, and audit preparation.
The Senior Accounts Assistant role offers meaningful exposure to a broad finance workload within a small, international business environment. It combines routine processing with opportunities to support process improvements and strengthen controls across finance activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Process and post supplier invoices to the accounting system, ensuring appropriate coding and supporting documentation is in place.
• Review and manage invoice approval workflows (including follow-up of outstanding approvals) to ensure payments proceed with complete authorisation.
• Maintain supplier accounts, resolve supplier queries, and perform supplier statement reconciliations.
• Assist with remittance advice preparation and distribution.
• Review staff expense claims and company credit card activity, ensuring items are accurately coded, supported and approved prior to processing.
• Prepare monthly credit card reconciliations and ensure transactions are correctly coded and authorised.
• Escalate exceptions or policy breaches where appropriate.
• Prepare and issue client, portfolio company and intercompany recharge invoices; validate billing details including legal entity information and VAT numbers.
• Monitor outstanding invoices and debtor balances, issue customer statements, and support credit control activities.
• Maintain the cashbook, complete daily transaction matching, and support routine bank reconciliations.
• Monitor daily cash balances across group bank accounts, investigate unusual/unidentified transactions, and escalate unresolved items promptly.
• Prepare supplier, expense and intercompany payments for approval and process routine payment runs.
• Initiate and record intercompany transfers in line with group procedures.
• Administer intercompany, SPV and portfolio company recharge activity, maintain recharge records and supporting calculations, and liaise with relevant stakeholders and accountants.
• Support month-end close by resolving outstanding processing queries and completing transactional processing ahead of month-end.
• Assist with information required for month-end reporting and maintain finance schedules and supporting documentation.
• Provide audit support by preparing audit schedules, gathering supporting evidence, and maintaining organised audit files.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes and controls.
• Provide general administrative support to the finance function as required.
Required Skills and Experience
• Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant or Finance Assistant role, ideally within transactional finance processes.
• Strong understanding of core finance operations, including purchase ledger, sales ledger, payments and bank reconciliations.
• Experience maintaining cashbooks and performing routine bank reconciliations.
• Excellent attention to detail with a clear commitment to accuracy and strong professional standards.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and ensure timely processing.
• Confident communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Experience using cloud-based accounting systems (Xero preferred).
• Good Excel skills, including comfort with reporting and routine reconciliation work.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a small team environment.
• Experience working across multiple entities or international operations is advantageous.
• AAT qualification or studying towards a finance qualification is beneficial (not essential).
• Proactive, trustworthy approach with a strong focus on maintaining effective financial controls.
