Job description

As a Clinical Coder at The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, your core responsibility will be to analyse and extract clinical information from patients records and accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes using the ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classification. You will: Work to nationally defined standards and internal guidelines to ensure coding accuracy and consistency. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and evolving coding standards. Contribute to the overall data quality within the Trust by flagging documentation issues and supporting improvements in clinical clarity For experienced coders, there may be additional responsibilities including mentoring of junior colleagues, participating in internal audits, or contributing to the development of guidance and training. Youll work as part of a supportive team structure, with regular feedback and development opportunities. All trainee coders begin with full-time office-based working, transitioning to hybrid or remote once appropriately trained and independent. Remote or hybrid working is available for Band 4 Clinical Coders and Band 5 Senior Clinical Coders, based on consistent performance and agreement with your team lead. We ask all remote staff to attend the office when required to stay connected with the team and take part in the training or key updates.
