Job description

Senior Geoscientist – Norwich, Weybridge or Oslo to £60k+Bonus+Excellent benefits Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Geoscientist acting as an Integrated Sensor Specialist, supporting the delivery of integrated UHR3D geophysical surveys for Offshore Wind, Carbon Capture Storage and Well Site Survey projects. This role is to provide technical leadership of integrated sensor workflows, systems, and deliverables covering multi-beam echosounder, side scan sonar, magnetometer, and sub-bottom profiler datasets. The role is to both deliver consistent, high-quality, and client-aligned outputs on assigned projects, and driving best practices, quality frameworks, and continuous improvement across the survey portfolio. The role reports to Director Geoscience Site Characterization, NES. Purpose & Scope • Responsible for technical management of integrated sensor deliverables on integrated UHR3D surveys, from post-acquisition processing through interpretation, reporting, to final delivery • Ensure consistent, high-quality, and fully integrated geophysical outputs • Lead the development of best practices, processes and quality frameworks for integrated sensor workflows supporting Site Characterisation department strategy • • Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership • Provide technical leadership for integrated sensor systems, leading and coordinating other Integrated Sensor Specialists to ensure effective alignment between acquisition, processing, interpretation, and delivery phases. • Design and implement best practices, including standardised workflows, QC approaches, and deliverable structures • Support development of innovative new workflows, digital tools, and automation opportunities • Engage with internal stakeholders (Interpretation Manager, Project Geo, Imaging and Data Management) to ensure seamless integration • • Processing & Interpretation Management • Support technical procurement of subcontractor services ensuring scope of work and specifications match project requirements, and validate proposed processing and interpretation workflows for technical robustness • Manage subcontractor work scope to ensure compliance with specifications, QC standards, and delivery timelines • Aid integration of datasets into fully integrated geophysical ground models • Lead internal and client status meetings and technical workshops • • Reporting & Deliverables • Ensure clarity of scope and specifications with Client at project start up, tracking that deliverables are consistent through project life cycle • Coordinate subcontractor reporting, deliverables and data integration with workflows • Support end-to-end data delivery, ensuring outputs are complete, structured, and client-ready • • Quality Management • Develop and apply structured QC/QA frameworks across all integrated sensor deliverables, ensuring compliance with the Quality Management System and client-specific standards • Develop and maintain process documentation, standards, and progress tracking for integrated sensor workflows • Capture lessons learned and drive and continuous improvement initiatives across projects. • • Data & Geodatabase Management • Oversee structure, population, and review of geodatabases (e.g., SSDM or client-specific formats) • Ensure adherence to data governance standards, including metadata, version control, and naming conventions • Work closely with Data Management to optimise data flows, accessibility, and delivery efficiency • • Key Competencies • Strong expertise in the processing and interpretation of integrated geophysical datasets (MBES, SSS, magnetometer, SBP) • Highly desirable is technical knowledge and working experience of data acquisition systems and techniques • Experience developing department integrated management systems best practices, standards and processes, and their implementation within a project team environment. • Strong understanding of quality management systems, QA/QC frameworks, and data governance • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, QGIS and Oasis montaj, sonarwiz, MBES software. • Ability to perform QC/QA on the range of integrated sensor products • Expertise in technical report writing • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills • Structured, analytical, and delivery-focused • • Please note that this is an office based role, no offshore work is required.
