Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be supporting a well-established animal welfare charity to recruit a Senior Philanthropy Manager. Reporting to the Head of Major Gifts, this role will lead the strategic growth of the charity's international mid-level giving programme. Key details: Salary: £47,000 - £50,000 per year Contract: Full time, Permanent Location: Surrey Working pattern: hybrid with two days a week in the office Closing date: 13 August About the role: This is a pivotal opportunity within a growing global philanthropy team at an ambitious international charity. You will take ownership of a well-established programme, driving income growth, strengthening donor stewardship, and expanding the mid-level giving strategy across key international markets. This role is ideal for an experienced high-value fundraiser with a strong background in mid-level or major donor fundraising who enjoys combining strategic planning with hands-on delivery. You will provide exceptional stewardship, strengthen donor engagement, and develop innovative acquisition strategies to grow the mid-level donor pipeline. The role offers significant scope to influence fundraising strategy, collaborate across international teams and help build the next generation of major donors. Key responsibilities • Lead the strategic development and growth of the mid-level giving programme programme, securing gifts between £1,000-£10,000, delivering ambitious income targets. • Develop and implement mid-level giving strategies across the UK, US, and priority European markets. • Build, manage and steward relationships with donors, delivering exceptional donor experiences that increase retention and lifetime value. • Develop targeted donor acquisition strategies to grow the mid-level giving pipeline and identify future major donor prospects. • Produce engaging stewardship communications, including donor updates, e-newsletters and impact reporting. • Work closely with Individual Giving, CRM, Digital and Brand teams to deliver integrated donor journeys and fundraising campaigns. • Use Salesforce and data insight to monitor performance, analyse donor behaviour and inform strategic decision-making. • Maintain oversight of the budget for mid-level giving and events, ensuring resources are efficiently allocated. • Ensure all fundraising activity complies with GDPR, fundraising regulations and organisational policies. Person specification • Proven experience in mid-level giving, major donor or other high-value fundraising roles. • Demonstrable success in growing fundraising income through strategic donor development and stewardship. • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to engage and inspire high-value supporters. • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce compelling donor communications and stewardship materials. • Strong analytical skills and experience using CRM systems, ideally Salesforce, to manage donor pipelines and inform fundraising strategy. • An understanding of GDPR and fundraising compliance. • Passion for environmental and animal welfare and the ability to communicate that passion to supporters. Experience working in international fundraising environments, managing cross-market programmes or speaking an additional European language would be advantageous but is not essential.
