Job description

Senior Software Engineer £75,000 to £85,000 + Private Healthcare + Enhanced Pension Winchester (Hybrid, 4 days per week in the office) Are you a senior software engineer looking to take end-to-end ownership of complex software at the heart of advanced detection systems, working alongside physicists and engineers to bring new technologies from research into real-world products? This is a principal-level technical role within a specialist engineering business developing integrated hardware and software platforms used across security, defence and other regulated environments. The software powers the wider ecosystem, enabling connectivity, real-time monitoring, alerting and operational visibility across distributed detection systems. You'll work closely with an in-house team of physicists researching new detection technologies, helping develop the software that brings those capabilities into the finished products. You'll provide technical leadership across a TypeScript-based microservices platform while remaining hands-on across backend services and contributing to a large Angular enterprise application used by customers in the field. Working with onshore and offshore engineering teams, you'll help shape architecture, technical standards and delivery across the full software lifecycle. This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys deep technical ownership, architectural responsibility and building software with genuine real-world impact. The Role *Technical ownership of a TypeScript-based microservices platform running in Linux environments. *Leading development across backend services and a large Angular application for monitoring, visualisation and alerting. *Designing and optimising data models across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch and Redis. *Owning CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure across on-prem, cloud and hybrid deployments using Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform and Ansible. *Working alongside physicists and engineering teams to deliver new product capabilities while mentoring engineers and driving technical standards. The Person *Strong experience designing and building distributed, microservices-based systems. *Commercial experience with TypeScript on the backend and Angular on the frontend. *Proven experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis or similar technologies. *Comfortable working within Linux-based, security-conscious or regulated environments. *Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code and modern DevSecOps practices. *Confident providing technical leadership while remaining hands-on. Rise Technical Recruitment Ltd acts an employment agency for permanent roles and an employment business for temporary roles. The salary advertised is the bracket available for this position. The actual salary paid will be dependent on your level of experience, qualifications and skill set and will be decided by our client, the employer. Rise are not responsible or liable for any hiring decisions made by the end client. We are an equal opportunities company and welcome applications from all suitable candidates.
