Job description

• To work in all areas within or associated in the department on a rotational basis. • To carry out assigned duties within the operating department involving the direct care of patients, as required in support of the Registered Health Care professional. • To carry out delegated specific and unsupervised duties in support of the operating department, including general housekeeping duties as required. • To assist with the preparation of the area for the operating schedule, including equipment checks where appropriate. • To support and assist the Registered Health Care Professional during surgical, anaesthetic and recovery procedures. • To assist in the preparation and disposal of instruments and equipment and general housekeeping of the stores and theatre environment. • To assist in maintaining a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors, reporting any untoward incidents, accidents or potential hazards to the nurse in charge. • To provide assistance in the transportation of patients, equipment, goods and instruments to and from the operating theatres/wards/other departments. • To ensure that specimens are transported in a timely, efficient and safe manner to the laboratory. • To contribute to effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team. • To contribute to the quality of patient care during surgical, anaesthetic and recovery procedures, in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures. • To assist in the maintenance of appropriate legible and correct records, ensuring such information is kept securely and out of reach of unauthorised persons. • To participate in all duty rotas i.e. night shift/late shift/early shift/weekend/bank holidays. • To perform any other duties as delegated by Registered Health Care Professionals, which are deemed to come within the scope of this post.
