Job description

Reed are recruiting for a Payroll Lead to join a well-established and growing organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced payroll specialist to take ownership of end-to-end payroll while supporting key HR processes in a fast-paced environment. The Role This position is responsible for managing and delivering accurate, compliant payroll operations while also providing hands-on support across HR administration and employee lifecycle activities. You will play a key role in ensuring a smooth payroll process, maintaining data integrity, and enhancing the overall employee experience. Key Responsibilities Payroll • Manage and process monthly payroll from start to finish • Collect, verify, and reconcile payroll data including overtime, bonuses, and deductions • Process starters, leavers, salary changes, and statutory payments • Submit RTI reports and ensure all HMRC and pension obligations are met • Complete year-end payroll activities including P45s, P60s, and P11Ds • Maintain accurate payroll records in line with GDPR • Identify and implement process improvements • Resolve payroll queries and discrepancies promptly Compliance & Reporting • Ensure full compliance with UK payroll legislation (PAYE, NI, pensions, statutory payments) • Keep up to date with regulatory changes and best practice • Support reporting and payroll cost forecasting Employee Support • Act as first point of contact for payroll queries • Provide clear explanations of payslips, tax codes, and deductions • Maintain confidentiality at all times HR Support • Assist with onboarding and new starter inductions • Maintain employee records and HR systems • Support HR compliance and administrative processes • Assist with performance review cycles and employee engagement activities • Provide general HR administrative support and project assistance Stakeholder Collaboration • Work closely with HR, Finance, and senior management • Liaise with pension providers and external stakeholders • Support managers with payroll-related guidance About You Essential Skills & Experience • 3–5 years’ payroll experience • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements • Experience processing end-to-end payroll • Experience using Sage Payroll • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy • Strong organisational and time management skills • Ability to manage sensitive data with discretion • Confident communicator with excellent problem-solving skills • CIPP qualification (Level 3 or 5) • Previous experience supporting HR functions • Exposure to CIS or construction sector payroll Key Performance Indicators • Near 100% payroll accuracy • 100% on-time payroll delivery • High compliance with payroll regulations • Low payroll error rate and query levels Why Apply? • Opportunity to take ownership of payroll processes • Varied role combining payroll and HR • Collaborative and supportive working environment • Chance to contribute to process improvements and business growth If you’re an experienced payroll professional looking for a role with added variety and responsibility, we’d love to hear from you.
