Senior Science Technician - Secondary SchoolLocation: Taunton, Somerset Start Date: 3rd September 2026 Contract Type: Temp to Perm Pay Rate: £14.25 - £16.64 per hour Working Hours: Monday to Thursday Friday , term-time only About the RoleProspero Teaching are currently recruiting for a Senior Science Technician to join a vibrant and well-resourced secondary school. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Science Technician looking to step into a senior role with greater responsibility, or for an established Senior Technician seeking a new challenge. This is a temp-to-perm position starting in September 2026, offering the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff within a supportive and forward-thinking Science department. Key Responsibilities • Prepare and set up equipment, apparatus and materials for practical science lessons, assessments and examinations • Ensure all equipment and resources are maintained, stored safely and ready for re-use • Manage stock levels, including ordering, auditing and maintaining inventories • Supervise and support the science technician team where required • Carry out minor repairs, maintenance and construction of apparatus • Assist with risk assessments for practical activities and support staff with safety guidance • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, including COSHH • Safely manage chemicals, hazardous materials and waste disposal • Support practical examinations and wider departmental activities, including enrichment events • Maintain a clean, organised and safe laboratory and preparation environment • Assist with the safe storage and handling of specialist materials, including (where applicable) radioactive sources About You • Previous experience working within a school science department or laboratory environment • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the update service (or willing to apply for one) • A strong science background (GCSE/A-Level or equivalent) • Good knowledge of laboratory procedures, health & safety and COSHH regulations • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Confident in supervising and supporting others • Flexible, proactive and committed to supporting student learning What We Offer • Competitive hourly pay: £14.25 - £16.64 • Support from a dedicated Prospero Teaching consultant • Access to training and CPD opportunities About Prospero TeachingProspero Teaching is a leading education recruitment agency, working with schools across the UK to provide high-quality staffing solutions.
