SEN Teaching AssistantLocation: Barnsley Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience About the RoleAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a brand-new specialist education provision opening in Barnsley this September. The setting has been created to support children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), communication and interaction difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), sensory processing needs, and associated learning difficulties. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver high-quality educational and pastoral support, enabling pupils to develop academically, socially and emotionally. Key Responsibilities • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. • Assist with the delivery of personalised learning activities. • Help pupils develop communication, social and independence skills. • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies. • Work collaboratively with teachers, families and external professionals. • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment. About You • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND. • Ideally experience within a specialist SEND school or provision. • Understanding of autism, SEMH needs and communication difficulties. • Patient, resilient and adaptable approach. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Passionate about helping young people achieve their full potential.
