School Caretaker / Site Assistant Northfield, Birmingham Location: Northfield, Birmingham Start Date: September 2026 (or ASAP) Contract: Full-time, Long-term Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (Alternating Shift Pattern) Prospero Teaching are currently recruiting for a reliable and proactive School Caretaker / Site Assistant to join a highly regarded secondary school in Northfield, Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a dedicated school community where maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors is a priority. Working under the direction of the Premises Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day maintenance, security and presentation of the school site. Key Responsibilities: Ensure the school site is safe, secure and well maintained. Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs. Assist with opening and locking the school premises. Support the setup of classrooms and school events. Monitor health and safety across the site. Report maintenance issues and liaise with contractors where required. Help maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the school grounds. Working Hours: The successful candidate will work an alternating weekly shift pattern: Week 1: 6:30am 2:30pm Week 2: 2:00pm 10:00pm Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Please note that shift times may be subject to change to meet the operational needs of the school. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Previous experience in a caretaker, site assistant, facilities or maintenance role (preferred). Basic DIY and maintenance skills. A good understanding of health and safety procedures. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent organisational and communication skills.
