Design Manager - Water Infrastructure & Civil EngineeringJoin a leading Tier 1 civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering major water, wastewater and environmental projects across the UK. This is an opportunity for an experienced Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants on complex water infrastructure programmes, ensuring high-quality technical solutions are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with client requirements. The RoleAs Design Manager, you will take ownership of the technical delivery of projects from concept through to detailed design, supporting the successful delivery of clean water, wastewater, biosolids, pipeline, pumping station, trunk main and network infrastructure schemes. You will work closely with project delivery teams, engineering specialists, consultants and stakeholders to ensure designs are compliant, buildable and delivered to programme and budget. Key Responsibilities • Lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and design consultants. • Take accountability for the technical quality and suitability of engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle. • Ensure designs comply with client requirements, industry standards, regulations and specifications. • Manage consultant performance and contractual deliverables. • Oversee engineering budgets, design schedules and resource planning. • Implement and manage engineering change control processes. • Review and approve calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documentation. • Support supply chain engagement and specialist subcontractor selection. • Liaise with Project Managers, Engineering Managers and key stakeholders on design development, risks and project delivery matters. • Provide leadership on temporary works design coordination and associated engineering requirements. About YouWe are interested in speaking with candidates who can demonstrate: Essential Experience • Design management experience within civil engineering or water infrastructure projects. • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and external design consultants. • Strong understanding of project design management, programme control and stakeholder engagement. • Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. • Excellent communication and leadership skills. Desirable Experience • Water and wastewater infrastructure projects. • Potable water mains and foul water drainage systems. • BIM and common data environment experience. • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status, or working towards professional membership.
